Your surgeon will arrange the time and date for your surgery. Your surgeon will also advise you of any pre-operative tests that will need to be done prior to surgery.

Once your surgery is scheduled, Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Patient Access representatives will begin your surgery pre-registration process.  Patient Access will work with you ahead of your scheduled surgery, either by phone or during one of your visits to the hospital for your pre-operative tests, to complete all necessary paperwork and to verify your insurance coverage and benefits.

Patient Access can help you to
  • verify insurance coverage
  • identify a high deductible
  • help you resolve financial/insurance issues surrounding your services
  • sign all necessary paperwork, including advanced directives and the privacy policy
  • qualify for Medicaid or financial assistance
By working with Patient Access ahead of time, you will be able to simply sign in with them and quickly go to surgery on your scheduled day.  Patient Access will also make sure your family is comfortably settled in our Surgery Waiting room.
Our surgical team will make sure you are comfortable before, during, and after your procedure.  Following your surgery, you will be assisted with sitting up, pain medications or other medications, or food or drink, as ordered by your doctor.  Depending upon your type of surgery, you may leave the hospital the same day as your surgery or you may be admitted to stay at the hospital, as your doctor orders.
The surgery waiting room, staffed by volunteers from the HRH Auxiliary, is a comfortable area for family members while they wait for your surgery to be finished.  The waiting rooms contain sofas and chairs, phones, televisions, restrooms, magazines, and free coffee for patient’s family members.

Families are given updates by phone on the progress of your surgery.  A tracker system is available to family members so they can be paged while they are in the hospital building, but outside the waiting room.

A consultation room adjoins the waiting room, and your surgeon will meet there with your family following your surgery.

Free wi-fi is available for your personal laptops.

The Auxiliary volunteer can direct family members to other areas of the hospital, including:
  • Judy’s Boutique to purchase magazines, flowers, balloons, cards, games, and other items
  • Courtyard Cafe to purchase hot meals, snacks or beverages
  • Hospital Courtyard for a dose of sunshine
  • Hospital Mall for additional waiting areas
  • Chapel for a moment of reflection
